The art at the NSU Art Museum is loaded with beautiful and informative artwork. Painted flowers are white and the yellow paint looks like nectar and the paint on the portrait smells sweet. The petals fan widely over the canvas and a child walks by and whiffs the fragrance of the painted surface. The child’s eyes travel over the paintings ovoid shape and a tour guide says, “There’s a lot more to see.”
The NSU Art Museum has been giving the people of Fort Lauderdale fine art for over sixty years. Founded in 1958, The NSU Museum of Art is 75,000-square-feet and two floors of ceramics, culture, tours, and modern fine art.
NSU, which gets its name from being associated with Nova South Eastern University, stays fresh by switching things up over at the museum by offering to events and highlighting different artist. According to their website and pamphlet, “The exhibition presents abstract and Pop Art with works by William Copley, Elaine de Kooning, Sam Gilliam, among others.” Over the year, some sections of the exhibition will change with new unique work, artist, and history. An example of this would be the museum presenting the work of artist Frank Stella.
New York artist Frank Stella composed 300 art pieces, including paintings, sculptures, and drawings that explore areas of minimalism and abstract art. Stella’s abstract art is known to be a little wacky, off the wall, and paint strokes that seem to move randomly, bold colors that curve yet sharply defined, and with eyes moving from place to place unable to decide what the focus of the piece is.
The NSU Art Museum is a part of Fort Lauderdale’s vibrant arts and entertainment district on Las Olas Boulevard. The exceptional exhibitions, artwork collections, history, and more make it a premier destination for the arts, family fun, and every year they’re doing something new to last another sixty years.
