Sanaa is Bringing African and Indian Flavors to Florida

Animal Kingdom Lodge Entrance - Pictures By (NILE FORTNER)

The lobby entrance greets you with colorful African décor and beautiful handcrafted African artwork. Once inside the restaurant, you’ll notice the décor all over the walls and ceiling that resemble a tree canopy with lanterns hanging from branches. The lanterns offer a cozy feel as you read wise quotes of African proverbs that are also décor on the walls. The large windows that look out onto a sunset savanna give you an opportunity to see zebras, giraffes, and all kinds of African animals over at ‘Sanaa’ as you dine.

Sanaa, located in Animal Kingdom Lodge, is East African and Indian cooking in Orlando, Florida. Sanaa, which means “works of art” in Swahili, offers authentic cooking and as you eat, you may watch the animals roam the sunset savanna.

Even though the cuisine is not your usual American dish, you’ll still find something special at Sanaa. The menu has so much to choose from, some examples include Indian-style bread with sauces, the vegetarian sampler (Paneer Cheese and Spinach, Stewed Lentils, Spicy Cauliflower, Onions, Tomatoes, and Mint), Tandoori meats, and slow-cooked short ribs.

Shrimp, Onions, Flatbread, Tomatoes, Spicy Sauce - Sanaa Entree

At first, some of the food items did not sound so appealing to me, but after tasting it, I discovered it was a great taste of culture and something new. If you’re willing to try something new other than the traditional Disney dining menus, you should consider giving Sanaa a try. The most famous attraction for Sanaa is the sunset savanna. The savanna offers beautiful scenery of the most beautiful African animals, such as giraffes and zebras.

The giraffe stands tall and proud with its long neck, the giraffe moves with grace as her hooves met the grassland. Her ears waggle and shiver when the breeze caught them. The giraffe is covered in a beautiful yellow and orange mosaic style pattern. One giraffe stands next to its baby. The baby is short with shaking spindly legs which shake every time it takes a step.

I’d suggest going for lunch, that way you have a better opportunity to see the animals and scenery during the daytime. Later seating options might fall after dark, and you won’t be able to see much of the wildlife. You’ll see your reflection in the glass at that point, and that’s it. Also, some of the animals might be turning in for the night for some sleep.

There truly is something on the menu for everyone, even if it takes examining the menu a bit closer. Sanaa even has a bar and you may walk outside to get an even closer look at all the animals. If you’re looking for tasty culture and a great setting, look no further than Sanaa.
