My Heart is in Little Havana Cuban Restaurant

South Florida has a lot of diversity and culture to offer residents and Little Havana is offering a ton of culture and a ton of food.

Food, drinks, live music, cultural, and more all make this family-friendly restaurant a treat and a great experience for any occasion. This restaurant gives you more than the usual taste of Cuban cuisine. This place really is giving visitors a better understanding and appreciation of Cuban culture.

The artwork that decorates the restaurant is actually authentic Cuban art and created by the local Cuban artist. The artwork illustrates Cuban history and the Cuban lifestyle, which in order to understand and appreciate the food, you might want to get an understanding of the lifestyle.

Interior

Part of that lifestyle is also the music. Little Havana offers some live music and live bongo players. The restaurant could be as quiet as a tiptoe or as loud as a roll of distant thunder. The live bongos can keep the beat of any song as steady as a clock. A cultural sound that echoes throughout the restaurant to your very soul and awakes your inner Cuban spirituality, but the place is still quiet enough for you to enjoy a nice conversation.

The menu shows you a list of Cuban favorites and what the restaurant personally recommends. The Havana specialties on the menu include a variety of dishes, however, the shrimp Havana, and the steak are the most popular with the public.

If you’re someone like me who is unclear about certain menu items, the waiters and waitresses are very kind and passionate with you. You’ll be greeted warmly and seated at a good time. It was difficult for me to decide on what to order as everything looked nice, I wanted a better understanding of what was actually in the food, and was surprisingly reasonably priced.

Within minutes the waitress or waiter will bring out Cuban bread rolls in a basket. The bread is a nice side dish and it’s courteous of them. The bread rolls were fluffy, buttery, warm, and a slight crust on the edges. However, it is nothing that is worth indulging in, especially if you’re watching your carb and calorie intake.

If you’re someone who wants to eat on the lighter side or on the vegetarian and vegan side, unfortunately, Little Havana may not be your first hangout spot. I would say about 95 percent of their lunch and dinner menu is loaded with chicken, beef, and mostly pork. The salad served with black beans, plantains, and rice is actually pretty good though.

Seafood Platter

Besides the plantains, rice, and black beans, the seafood platter was my favorite. Shrimp, lobster, oysters, and more made for a tasty time with zero chances of leftovers.

The Tres Leches is a cake that is soaked in three kinds of milk, evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. I’ve had this cake before, and I was really hoping this would be fantastic. Even though it is really good, and I love the little bright cherry red on top, I believe I’ve had better elsewhere. The cake wasn’t as moist as it could have been, and I personally prefer res Leche to be moist and a little softer to the bite.

Tres Leches

Overall, Little Havana has fun live entertainment Friday through Sundays, good lunch specials and good $5 mojitos at the bar. Little Havana has a great atmosphere and I’ glad I got to learn, appreciate, and taste the culture at the award-winning Little Havana Cuban Restaurant.
